Dulac is a very small coastal town (i.e. on the ocean, a bay, or inlet) located in the state of Louisiana. With a population of 1,241 people and two associated neighborhoods, Dulac is the 218th largest community in Louisiana. There's nothing like the smell of a brand new house, and in Dulac, you'll find that a large proportion of houses were recently built. New growth in residential real estate is an indication that people are choosing to move to Dulac, and putting down their money on brand new construction. Dulac’s real estate is, on average, some of the newest in the nation. Dulac does seem to be experiencing an influx of affluent people, because the median household income is $38,750.00.
Another notable thing is that Dulac is an extremely popular destination for tourists and seasonal residents. So much of the population is seasonal such that the town’s population swells significantly during the vacation season, and drops again when the season ends. Because of this, much of the local economy is centered around tourism; some businesses may be operated only during the high season. During the low season, year-round residents will notice that the city is a substantially quieter place to live.
It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Dulac has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Dulac has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Dulac than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Dulac may be for you.
Dulac is also nautical, which means that parts of it are somewhat historic and touch the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and bays. Such areas are often places that visitors and locals go for waterfront activities or taking in the scenery.
As is often the case in a small town, Dulac doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
Dulac ranks among the bottom of the nation in terms of college education compared to other cities and towns: only 4.43% of people over 25 have a college degree.
The per capita income in Dulac in 2022 was $34,353, which is upper middle income relative to Louisiana, and middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $137,412 for a family of four. However, Dulac contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.
Dulac is an extremely ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Dulac home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Dulac residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Dulac also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 11.22% of the town’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Dulac include French, German, French Canadian, English, and Acadian/Cajun.
The most common language spoken in Dulac is English. Other important languages spoken here include French and Spanish.
