Roselle profile

Living in Roselle

Roselle is a medium-sized borough located in the state of New Jersey. With a population of 23,064 people and five associated neighborhoods, Roselle is the 86th largest community in New Jersey.

Also of interest is that Roselle has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 10.26% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

One downside of living in Roselle, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 33.39 minutes every day commuting to work. It is, however, a pedestrian-friendly borough. Many of its neighborhoods are dense enough and have amenities close enough together that people find it feasible to get around on foot. In addition, local public transit is widely used. For those who would prefer to avoid driving entirely and leave their car at home, it may be an option to use the transit instead.

Although the majority of commuting trips in the borough are by private automobile, Roselle is somewhat unusual for a borough of its size for having a substantial number of people who use public transportation. For a lot of people, the bus helps to get to and from their jobs every morning, which benefits everyone in the Roselle area by reducing both traffic and air pollution.

The overall education level of Roselle is somewhat higher than in the average US city of 21.84%: 27.11% of adults 25 and older in the borough have at least a bachelor's degree.

The per capita income in Roselle in 2022 was $42,371, which is low income relative to New Jersey, and upper middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $169,484 for a family of four. However, Roselle contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Roselle is an extremely ethnically-diverse borough. The people who call Roselle home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. People of Hispanic or Latino origin are the most prevalent group in Roselle, accounting for 44.19% of the borough’s residents (people of Hispanic or Latino origin can be of any race). The greatest number of Roselle residents report their race to be Black or African-American, followed by White. Important ancestries of people in Roselle include Haitian, Italian, Jamaican, African, and Polish.

Foreign born people are also an important part of Roselle's cultural character, accounting for 33.72% of the borough’s population.

The most common language spoken in Roselle is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and French.
