Athens is a very small village located in the state of New York. With a population of 1,577 people and two associated neighborhoods, Athens is the 663rd largest community in New York. Athens has an unusually large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic villages.

Athens is a very ethnically-diverse village. The people who call Athens home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Athens residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American.
