Mashpee is a medium-sized coastal town (i.e. on the ocean, a bay, or inlet) located in the state of Massachusetts. With a population of 15,468 people and four associated neighborhoods, Mashpee is the 138th largest community in Massachusetts. Housing costs in Mashpee are among some of the highest in the nation, although real estate prices here don't compare to real estate prices in the most expensive communities in Massachusetts.Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Mashpee is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Mashpee is a town of professionals, sales and office workers, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Mashpee who work in office and administrative support (13.70%), management occupations (11.99%), and sales jobs (8.21%). Also of interest is that Mashpee has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US. One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 12.07% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes. Another notable thing is that Mashpee is an extremely popular destination for tourists and seasonal residents. So much of the population is seasonal such that the town’s population swells significantly during the vacation season, and drops again when the season ends. Because of this, much of the local economy is centered around tourism; some businesses may be operated only during the high season. During the low season, year-round residents will notice that the city is a substantially quieter place to live. Residents will find that the town is relatively quiet. This is because it is not over-populated, and it has fewer college students, renters, and young children - all of whom can be noisy at times. So, if you're looking for a relatively peaceful place to live, Mashpee is worth considering. Mashpee is also nautical, which means that parts of it are somewhat historic and touch the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and bays. Such areas are often places that visitors and locals go for waterfront activities or taking in the scenery. Mashpee is one of the most well-educated cities in the nation. 41.83% of adults in Mashpee have at least a bachelor's degree. Compare that to the average community in America, which has just 21.84% with a bachelor's degree or higher. The per capita income in Mashpee in 2022 was $53,901, which is middle income relative to Massachusetts, and wealthy relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $215,604 for a family of four. However, Mashpee contains both very wealthy and poor people as well. Mashpee is a somewhat ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Mashpee home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Mashpee residents report their race to be White, followed by Black or African-American. Important ancestries of people in Mashpee include Irish, Italian, English, German, and French. The most common language spoken in Mashpee is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Portuguese.
