Shepherd is a very small city located in the state of Texas. With a population of 1,979 people and two associated neighborhoods, Shepherd is the 630th largest community in Texas.
One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 9.53% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
The city is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Shepherd has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Shepherd a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.
One downside of living in Shepherd, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 31.47 minutes every day commuting to work.
As is often the case in a small city, Shepherd doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
The citizens of Shepherd have a very low rate of college education: just 7.43% of people over 25 have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree, compared to a national average of 21.84% for all cities.
The per capita income in Shepherd in 2022 was $25,425, which is lower middle income relative to Texas, and low income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $101,700 for a family of four. However, Shepherd contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.
