Landers is a very small town located in the state of California. With a population of 2,794 people and two associated neighborhoods, Landers is the 620th largest community in California.
Of important note, Landers is also a town of artists. Landers has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Landers’s character.
Also of interest is that Landers has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.
A relatively large number of people in Landers telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 16.81% of the workforce works from home. While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Another notable thing is that Landers is an extremely popular destination for tourists and seasonal residents. So much of the population is seasonal such that the town’s population swells significantly during the vacation season, and drops again when the season ends. Because of this, much of the local economy is centered around tourism; some businesses may be operated only during the high season. During the low season, year-round residents will notice that the city is a substantially quieter place to live.
It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Landers has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Landers has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Landers than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Landers may be for you.
One downside of living in Landers, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 36.84 minutes every day commuting to work.
The percentage of adults in Landers who are college-educated is close to the national average for all communities of 21.84%: 20.41% of the adults in Landers have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.
The per capita income in Landers in 2022 was $31,606, which is lower middle income relative to California, and middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $126,424 for a family of four. However, Landers contains both very wealthy and poor people as well. Landers also has one of the higher rates of people living in poverty in the nation, with 31.26% of its population below the federal poverty line.
Landers is a very ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Landers home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Landers residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Landers also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 17.02% of the town’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Landers include Irish, German, Italian, English, and European.
The most common language spoken in Landers is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Korean.
